I do believe that makeup and men (or masculinity for that matter) can go together. You just have to go outside the rules, and find rules that don't copy how we apply makeup for women. As long as you do that, I think you can take the experiments very far.

I hope this might be proof: ( I was using MetalX cyber, in combination with Naughty Nauticals products). And since we are using Naughty Nauticals I decided to go for a twist on a Pirate - look.

cold weather... cold colors and trying to find inspiration in the Antiquitease look. That meant, a lot of white and powdery transparent colors. I didn't want to imitate the gold eyeliner (although I do like the effect). So here is the result:

what did I use:

base : Paint Pot : Painterly

more base : Matte2 Blanc type (esp. on the inner corner of the eye and underneath the lower lash)

Matte2 Clarity (on the outer corner of the eye)

Cumulus e/s for blending

MiLady mineralize e/s on the brow (both purple and red, but blended very lightly)

and now the big tricks:

in the corner of the eye pigment Your LadyShip (antiquitease) and underneath the eye and along the cheek (sounds scary, I know)

finally: Guerlain Forever Gold : you can spray this soft glitter on top of your eyes (I only used it on top of the eye, and you really get the frosty look that you would get on leaves in a garden). I'm sure you can achieve the same result with MacPro Glitters (I don't have any yet, but I'll try the same effect when the Originals collection comes out).

Under the influence of:

I have just bought MAC's Uppity (gold) fluidline eyeliner and MSF Milady. So here's my challenge. How can I combine gold, red and purple into something that fits the Halloween spirit. My next challenge will be to use the same products and to get into the Xmas holiday spirit. I'm guessing I'll have to add a lot of white to get to that challenge.

Goal:

The gold , purple and red , all look very intense when you look at the products. However, once you start applying them on skin and you start to blend, you immediately notice that they turn into a sheer and reflective color. So here's my goal: " how to make the look strong and dramatic enough"

Disclaimer:

***for all those who are new to my blog, my background is theatre and improv. That explains why I like a bold approach when it comes to make up and stage. I like to experiment with non-wearable looks and I like to tone them down after I have gone through the experimenting phase. So they might look over the top to you at this moment, but the idea is that you could make them as natural or as strong as you might want to. Also, and that's a technical thing. Very natural looks are hard to capture with a digital camera. Enjoy ***

Products used:

E. Lauder Maximum Cover as a base
MSF e/s Milady (red and purple)
e/s Beauty Marked (black with red pearl)
Matte 2 e/s Copperplate
Uppity fluid eyeliner

I used lot's of contrast. Putting the gold, purple and red next to eachother and creating a "fake - fake eyelash look" seemed to work. It's also a nice trick because it changes your look depending on the angle you look at it. Because the colors were strong, I also decided to go for an over-emphasised brow.

intense colors that scare people (I just walked past all the DIOR 'Poison' bottles in a shop, and all those dard colors seem to have inspired me)

These are the products that I used for the experiment:

E. Lauder Maximum Cover base
Paint Pot "Pharaoh" (emerald Green, McQueen Collection)
Technakohl Eyeliner "Archival"
msf e/s "By Jupiter" (gold - silver - taupe)
e/s "Beatuy Marked" ( black with red pearl)
Matte 2 Clarity (teal blue)
Fluidline eyeliner "non conformist" (pale lavender)

Goal:

I want something dramatic, that'll work on stage and that will be combined with a pale face and lips. Call it 'Medusa' or call it 'looks like you just have a punch and a black eye'. You could also see it as an experiment with a smokey eye. Most of the time you get the smokey eye effect with highlighter and various tones of a same dark color. I wanted to use the same dark colors but combine them with bold colors into a smokey eye effect.

Problems:

blending the McQueen green into your normal skintone isn't easy , esp. if you use them at the outer edges of your eye makeup
the trick with this look was the dark black eyeshadow that frames the eye and is used as a base for the other colors.
layering Milady purple on black eyeshadow seems to bring out the purple, and makes it more intense than applying purple on bare skin
the first attempt did not have any dark eyeshadow beneath the lower lash line. In that case the look just did not work. To get the smokey eye look I really had to overdo it with the shading beneath the lower lash. It's strange and it's counter intuitive because we always want to put darker colors above the top lashline
the only way to survive all that dark color was by applying deep blue and deep purple on the lid and lower lashline

Mac Events in Las Vegas : cool pictures

I'm not complaining. For 9 months now we've all been enjoying the first MAC store in Belgium (Antwerp). It's busy , it's popular and it's small :-). So hosting events might not be a good idea in such a small store. I'm not even sure that events are that common in European stores. But at some point I hope they start hosting events too. These are some pictures from the Mac Store in Las Vegas. It looks more styllish and fun than a catwalk show.
